DES MOINES — Woodard-Granger freshman wrestler Peyton Nixon placed third Saturday in the 106 pound bracket at the Corn Cob Nationals.

The tourney, held at the Jacobson Center on the Iowa State Fairgrounds, was open at each weight to ages 15-18, regardless of school classification. Nixon competed for Ubasa wrestling.

He began with pin of Rylie Siroky (unaffiliated) in 2 minutes, 35 seconds, before losing by fall to eventual champion Lane Scorpil of DC Elite.

Nixon rebounded to dominate Atlantic/CAM grappler Cruz Weaver with a 16-4 major decision, then claimed third place by sticking the shoulders of Spencer’s Gabe Cauthron to the mat in only 25 seconds.
