MAXWELL, Iowa — Woodward-Granger fell behind early and could never make up the gap in dropping their season opener to Collins-Maxwell, 57-32, Friday.

The Spartans scored 15 points in each of the first two quarter and the Hawks nine in each as the hosts opened a 30-18 lead at the break, with a 12-4 surge in the third period creating a 42-22 bulge.

Only three Hawks entered the scoring column, led by 16 points from Grace Deputy. Dabry Nixon was 3-of-4 on 3-pointers in scoring 14 points, with Lexie Belgarde adding two points.

Deputy was stout near the basket, pulling down nine rebounds and blocking eight shots while making two steals. Nixon had six boards, two assists and two steals, with Belgarde blocking two shots and making an assist.
