W-G second at WCAC after Thursday triangular

PLEASANTVILLE — Four Hawk wrestlers stood atop their weight class podium at Saturday’s WCAC tournament, helping Woodward-Granger finish second in the team standings. The results came after the team split a pair of matches at a triangular Thursday.

Interstate-35 was first Saturday with 209 points, with W-G in two at 189.5 while Van Meter/Earlham placed third at 166. Ogden (142), Panorama (110.5), Pleasantville (96), West Central Valley (92), and AC/GC (77) were also in action.

Dustin Harney (15-1) recorded two pins and a 7-0 decision to win the 152 pound bracket for W-G, with Jon McKeever (14-0) splitting a pair of pins with a 6-5 decision en route to winning first at 170.

A pair of pins carried Devan Brown (11-1) to first place at 195, with Peyton Nixon (13-0) recording a technical fall and a pin to win first at 113 pounds.

Kade Polich (11-3) was 1-1 with a pin to finish second at 182, with Alex Evans (11-3) 2-1 with two wins by fall to stand third at heavyweight. Also third were Alex Saxton (9-5 at 106), Riece Graham (8-2 at 120), and Jackson Potter (7-4 at 160).

Tjaden Smeltzer (6-10) was 1-2 in placing fourth at 138, with Joel Harney (3-10), Jayden Flugge-Smith (6-9), and Oliver Potter (3-5) all placing sixth, at 126, 132, and 145 pounds, respectively.

W-G topped Grinnell, 39-33, Thursday at DC-G, with the host Mustangs besting the Hawks, 51-27. DC-G was a 42-33 winner over Grinnell in the other dual.

McKeever was 2-0 with two pins, with Dustin Harney 2-0 with two decisions while Nixon was 2-0 with a pin and a win by forfeit.

Brayden Simons (145), Polich, Brown, and Evans were all 1-1, with each winning by pin. Saxton was also 1-1 with a victory by pin, while Flugge-Smith was 1-1 with a forfeit.

Parker Griffin (160), Joel Harney and Smeltzer were also in action for the Hawks.
