W-G sends track teams to WCV coed meet

STUART — A trip west was on the schedule Thursday for the Woodward-Granger track teams, who competed at the West Central Valley Coed Relays.

Van Meter and AC/GC claimed the top two girls spots with 175 and 130 points, respectively, with W-G finishing sixth out of nine teams with 52 points.

The W-G boys were fifth in a 10-team field with 66 points, with AC/GC (127) and CAM (106) seizing the top two places.

Kayley Dresback and Emma Drake had the top two individual event finishes for the Hawk girls, with Dresback second in the 400 in 1 minute, 10.76 seconds and Drake second in the 800 in 2:37.86.

Chloe David placed sixth in the 3000 in 15:23.14 and Brayten Ashman sixth in the 400 hurdles in 1:22.42.

Other individual scoring came in the shot put, where Katelyn Scharlau finished fifth at 28 feet, 10 inches while Kaydee Bennett was sixth at 28’2-3/4.

The Hawks were second in the 4×400 (4:39.64) and the distance medley (4:53.88), with Drake, Dresback, Josie Noland and Anna Tague running the former and Drake, Tague, Emma Anderson and Ava Petersen the latter.

Noland, Drake, Anderson and Dresback placed third in the sprint medley in 2:06.2, with Katie and Sydney Grell, Maddie Mann and McKenzie Dresback placing fourth in the 4×800 in 12:57.76.

The 4×200 team of Noland, Ashman, Gena Tague and Alexandria Mehrhoff finished fourth in 4×200 in 2:05.41 and Anderson, Mehrhoff, Gena Tague and Olivia Sus were sixth in the 4×100 in 59.87.

Bryce Achenbach placed second in the long jump for the W-G boys at 18 feet, one-quarter inch, the only field event points for the Hawks.

Keith Braunschweig was third in both the 100 hurdles (17.18) and 400 hurdles (1:04.11), with Worth Henry fourth in the former event in 19.32.

Henry used a clocking of 58.6 to place fifth in the 400 while Xavier Ibarra (12:38.47) and Dylan Steele (13:24.62) placed fifth and sixth in the 3200.

Achenbach, Reese Jamison, Logan Roll and Kade Polich ran to second in the 4×100 in 48.17 while Achenbach, Cale Pritchett, Cody Garland and Dylan Bird crossed second in the 4×400 in 3:47.55.

Both the 4×800 (9:52.49) and the distance medley (4:11.6) finished third. Garland, Jones, Pritchett and Kaya Bowlsby competed in the former while Polich, Pritchett, Garland and Jones ran in the latter.

Also scoring for the W-G boys was the 4×200 unit of Polich, Pritchett, Jamison and Tate Lettow and the sprint medley foursome of Roll, Polich, Garland and Achenbach. The former was fourth in 1:45.24 and the latter fifth in 1:50.24.

W-G will host the Hawk Coed Relays Tuesday, with Glidden-Ralston, Grand View Christian, Greene County, Paton-Churdan and WCV the visiting teams. Both W-G teams will then travel to Boone for a coed meet Thursday.
