WOODWARD — Senior guard Bryce Achenbach helped lead Woodward-Granger to a school record 22 wins this season and the first state tournament berth for the Hawk boys since 1986.

He has been rewarded by the Iowa Print Sportswriters Association by being named to the Class 2A All-State Second Team.

Achenbach scored 405 points (16.9 per game) while clearing 110 rebounds (4.6 per outing). He shot 56.7 percent from the floor, including 20-of-64 (31.3 percent) on 3-point attempts and 57-of-93 (61.3 percent) at the free throw line.

He had 57 steals and blocked 11 shots while making 123 assists. Achenbach committed 43 turnovers, but his nearly 3-to-1 ratio of assists-to-turnovers ranks among the best in the state considering his total of assists.

W-G was 24-23 in his freshman and sophomore seasons, but improved dramatically to finish 38-8 in his two years as an upperclassman (16-5 in 2019 and 22-2 this season). He finishes his career with 1,212 total points.

W-G is coached by Brent Achenbach.
