W-G softball splits pair in conference play

MADRID — Woodward-Granger bounced back from an 8-1 loss Monday to visiting and third-ranked Ogden to post a 5-3 win over Madrid on the road in an early afternoon contest Tuesday.

Tuesday’s game was played over the noon hour, as the baseball teams from both schools were meeting, at 4 p.m., at Principal Park.

Madrid (1-10, 1-6) scored three times in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 3-all, but W-G (5-7, 3-6) responded with two runs in the top of the sixth and then held on to pick up the victory.

Rian Jamison earned the win from the circle, yielding three rusn on 10 hits and three walks. She finished with five strikeouts.

Chloe Houge had two hits and a run, Audrey Simmons a hit, run and two RBIs and Ava Petersen a hit, run and RBI for the Hawks. Katelyn Bandstra scored once and had a single, with Libby Grell scoring once while Brylee Bice had a RBI.

Brooklyn Murry allowed five runs (three earned) on four hits while walking seven in six innings. She hit one batter and struck out three. Macy Gibbon tossed the seventh, striking out one.

Claire Knudsen had three singles and Jadyn Miller two singles to pace the Tiger attack.

Denali Loecker used her arm and her bat to lead Ogden (11-2, 7-0) to victory Monday. She hit a home run and a double and had three RBIs while allowing only two hits and two walks while striking out eight.

Reagan Church had a double and two RBIs and Jenna Palmer a double and a RBI.

Simmons had a double and a run, with Emma Anderson adding a single while Houge drove in Simmons.

Jamison allowed eight runs (two were unearned) on nine hits. She issued two walks and retired five batters on strikes.

W-G plays visiting Des Moines Christian for a varsity doubleheader Thursday before visiting SE Valley Friday.
