Members of the Dallas County Area Retired School Personnel Association (DCARSA) welcomed Mark Lane, superintendent of Woodward-Granger Community School District, to their April meeting.
Lane outlined the growth of W-G and the construction of a new middle school slated to open in Granger in 2026. He credited the increased enrollment in the district to the urban growth in Granger and its eventually extension to Woodward.
Lane said the W-G school system offers specialized programs for special-needs students at the Grandwood Education Center, where students learn job skills as well as educational skills. They also administer programs at the Woodward Academy Residential and Day School, he said.
In keeping up with the interests of today’s students, the district has established several new extracurricular activities, such as Esports, girl’s wrestling, soccer and bowling — in partnership with the Madrid schools — and a Lego League.
Lane also addressed questions from the DCARSPA members concerning recent federal and state legislation affecting the schools.
