W-G tops Panorama in WCAC volleyball

WOODWARD — A 3-0 sweep in WCAC net action lifted the record of Woodward-Granger to 11-13 overall and 7-2 in league play Tuesday. Visiting Panorama fell to 6-10, 4-5 with the setback.

The host Hawks claimed victory with set wins of 25-17, 25-17, and 25-12.

Elly Polich had 16 kills and Natalie Weaver 10 for the home team. Audrey Simmons had four kills, Grace Deputy three and Brayten Ashman two, with Gena Tague and Darby Nixon having one kill apiece. Seventeen assists were provided by Simmons and 14 by Polich, with Nixon tallying four assists and Weaver one.

Nixon had 24 digs to lead the W-G defense, with Weaver having 10 digs. Simmons made nine digs and Polich seven, with Faith Keuhl notching five digs. Ashman made 2-1/2 blocks at the net and Weaver 1-1/2, with Deputy adding a block.

The Hawks served 68-of-73 (93.2 percent) with nine aces.

Weaver was 15-of-17 with three aces, Simmons 19-20-2, Nixon 13-14-1, and Keuhl 10-10-2. Ashman finished 5-5-1 behind the line, with Polich 6-of-7.

Panorama hosts Des Moines Christian Thursday, with Woodward-Granger traveling to Van Meter. The Hawk match against the homestanding Bulldogs will be the final officiating duties for the tandem of Don Stracke and Jerry Bebout, who have served as a team for 35 years.

W-G will conclude their regular season Saturday by hosting the Norm McCune Invitational. Panorama will be one of many teams as the annual event.
