The W-G track teams competed at WCV Thursday and are hoping the weather cooperates Tuesday, allowing the Hawks to finally host a meet this season.

GOWRIE — While meets all around the area were being pre-eminently cancelled Monday, the Southeast Valley Coed Relays were held despite conditions that were less than optimum.

Both Woodward-Granger track teams were involved, with the Hawk girls finishing fifth in a seven-team field with 52 points while the Hawk boys seventh with 23 points.

W-G coach Brent Achnebach was just happy to finally have his team on the track, noting “We ran pretty well for having miserable conditions and actually had some season-best splits and relay times.”

Regan Kaufman raced to third in the 800 in 2 minutes, 50.72 seconds and placed sixth in the 400 in 1:14.24.

Sophie David was sixth in the 200 in 32.49 ticks while Savannah David was sixth in the 400 low hurdles in 1:25.68 and Kaitlyn Peters third in the 1500 in 5:49.57.

W-G won the 4×800 in 11:44.42, with Kaufman, Savannah David, Mary Hansen and Riley Jamison running the relay. The 4×100 (57.81) and 4×200 (2:03.71) relays both placed fourth. Dresback, Johnson and both David sisters ran the former, with Anderson, Noland, Dresback and Hansen running the latter.

The Hawk boys scored in two individual events, with Brendan Bird placing fourth in the discus with a spin of 106 feet, 9 inches while Chandler Cavanaugh finished sixth in the 100 dash in 12.27.

Josh Saak, J.P. Nixon, Bird and Gavan Pearson were third in the 4×800 in 9:57.13, with Cavanaugh, Nixon, Pearson and Payton Tague fourth in the 4×200 in 1:46.94 while Cavanaugh, Tague, Nixon and Saak teamed for fourth in the medley relay in 4:19.85.

The final event of the meet, the boys 4×400, saw the Hawk foursome of Cavanaugh, Tague, Nixon and Saak cross fourth with a clocking of 4:02.1.

Team scores in the girls meet were: Southeast Valley, 207; South Central Calhoun, 93; Coon Rapids-Bayard, 82; Newell-Fonda, 55; W-G, 52; Glidden-Ralston, 49, and Ogden 40. The boys team scores were: SCC, 153; SE Valley, 148; CR-B, 68; Ogden, 63; N-F, 58; G-R, 36; W-G, 23 and the SE Valley JV, 8.
