W-G wrestlers 3-0, Perry 2-1 at Montezuma quadrangular Tuesday

MONTEZUMA — Wrestling teams from Perry, Ogden and Woodward-Granger made a trip to southern Poweshiek County Tuesday for a quadrangular hosted by Montezuma.

W-G emerged with wins over their three opponents, with Perry finishing 2-1 while Ogden was 1-2 with a victory over the hosts, who finished 0-3.

W-G defeated Montezuma, 66-9, and Ogden, 63-15, before posting a 41-32 win over Perry.

Six Hawks had perfect 3-0 records to help the team remain perfect in dual meets for the season. Cody Fisher and Tyler Lawrenson, at 220 and 285 pounds, respectively, each scored one win by pin and two by forfeit, with Cale Pritchett claiming a decision, making a pin and receiving a forfeit at 170 while 182-pounder Kade Polich had a pin, a major decision and a forfeit. Dustin Harney (145) won twice by pin and once by decision, with Aidan Honkomp posting a decision, a major decision and a pin.

Finishing 2-1 for W-G were Matthew White at 120 (two forfeits), Corbyn Atwell at 126 (decison, pin), Colt Palmer at 132 (two forfeits), Gabe Yingst at 160 (two pins) and Nathaniel Rosen at 195 (two forfeits).

Joel Harney (106), Jayden Dorenkamp (138) and Jon McKeever (152) all had their single wins come via forfeit.

Perry was a 73-6 winner over Ogden and defeated Montezuma, 60-24, before falling to W-G.

Cole Nelson, at 106, was one of five Bluejays to finish 3-0 after he recorded two pins and received a forfeit. Jacob Nelson (132) won a decision and had two forfeits, Kaleb Olejniczak (138) had a pin, a technical fall and a forfeit, as did Justin Stammer (152), with Cori Alamina (195) posting a pin and two forfeit victories.

Tanner Burgin was 2-0 with a forfeit and a win by disqualification at 120 pounds, with Ian Castellanos 1-0 at 120 with a forfeit. Bryan Funez also finished 1-0, claiming a decision in his one match at 145.

Cole Snyder had a pin and a forfeit for a 2-1 mark at 182, with Luke Holtorf using a pin and a forfeit to finish 2-1 at 285 while Emmanuel Soto had two forfeits in his 2-1 effort at 220.

Wilbur Ramirez was 1-1 at 145 with a pin, with Riece Graham 1-2 at 113 with a technical fall. Erick Funez had a pin to finish 1-2 at 160, with Quinn Helmers 1-2 at 170 with a forfeit. Cristian Chavez was also in action but could not find his way to victory in three matches at 126 pounds.

Ogden’s 36-23 win over Montezuma was the other dual wrestled Tuesday.

Woodward-Granger will compete in the Webster City Invite Saturday while Perry travels to the Aplington-Parkersburg Invite. Both squads are then off until Dec. 13, when W-G travels to Bondurant-Farrar and Perry to Carroll.
