W-G wrestlers face trio of large-school opponents

URBANDALE, Iowa — Boone, West Des Moines Valley and host Urbandale were the three opponents Woodward-Granger battles in a wrestling quadrangular Tuesday.

Boone was a 66-18 winner over W-G, with Valley winning 71-7 and Urbandale a winner by a 66-12 margin. Urbandale topped Boone, 48-24, and Valley, 35-27, with Valley a 40-25 winner over Boone.

Wins were few for the Hawks, though 106-pounder Alex Saxton (30-6) found his way to a trio of victories. Saxton won with pins in 43 seconds in 1 minute, 3 seconds along with a 10-4 decision.

Brayden Simons (23-15) was 2-1 at 160 pounds with one win coming by fall in 57 seconds while the other was an 11-3 major decision.

James Dorrian (22-17) was 1-2 at 126 with a pin in 4:18 while Holdon Heard (17-21) collected a forfeit at 120 to account for the only other Hawk points.

In action but unable to record a win in their three matches were Abraham Bell (113 pounds), Elijah Bell (138), Oliver Potter (152), Jackson Potter (170) and Bryce Hockenson (182).

W-G did not have wrestlers competing at 132, 152, 195, 220 and 285.
