Artists, musicians and vendors are sought for next summer's second annual Waukee Arts Festival.

WAUKEE – Area artists looking to exhibit in the 2016 Waukee Arts Festival, scheduled for Sunday, July 10 from noon until 8 p.m. in Waukee’s Centennial Park, should act now to secure a spot, according to event organizers.

The festival, sponsored by the Waukee Area Arts Council, is held in conjunction with the Sundays in Centennial concert series and includes local artists, food and beverage vendors and non-stop music throughout the day. The Sundays in Centennial concert caps the day’s activities.

“Last year’s inaugural festival was a great success,” said Cody Kilgore, president of the Waukee Area Arts Council. “And we are very excited to see how it is growing to be an even larger and more vibrant event this year, with more artists, music and food.”

Last summer’s inaugural Waukee Arts Festival drew more than 1,000 attendees, with 450 more attending the evening concert. The 2015 event featured 25 artists, six food vendors and four singer-songwriters performing throughout the afternoon.

“Judging by the feedback and response the Waukee Arts Council has received so far,” Kilgore said, “we are expecting 50 or more artists to exhibit this year, and we will have 10 food vendors and a dozen musical acts throughout the day.”

New to the 2016 festival will be a farmers market and a student exhibition to promote younger artists.

The festival planners seek makers of high-quality, handmade works of art. The festival aims to give local artists a venue in which to bring their work before the public and for this reason does not accept applications from people selling commercially made products. All artists are screened before their applications are accepted.
