A Waukee man was arrested Sept. 10 after a verbal argument allegedly turned physical.

Peter Joseph Kallash, 60, of 263 S.E. Booth Ave., Waukee, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness.

The alleged assault occurred about 7:45 p.m. Sept. 10, when an officer of the Waukee Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in the 200 block of S.E. Booth Avenue.

According to court records, Kallash and the victim were “each highly intoxicated from alcohol” when the alleged assault occurred, and Kallask “shoved” the victim “to the ground in the living room, got on top of her and began striking her in the head and face area with his fists.”

Officers observed a number of injuries to the victim, including “bruising and scratches to her head and arms,” “visible swelling to her face,” “visible scratches to her forearms,” “bruising to her right eye lid and right shin bone” and “a visible red mark across her lower back.”

Kallash was held in the Dallas County Jail prior to posting a $1,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Sept. 21 in Dallas County District Court.
