Steven Thomas Abarr, 53, of Waukee was arrested Monday on charges of assault, third-degree harassment and second-degree burglary.

A Waukee man was arrested Monday on a Dallas County warrant in connection with a September incident in which he allegedly harassed and assaulted a West Des Moines man.

Steven Thomas Abarr, 53, of 1453 S.E. Sapphire Lane, Waukee, was charged with assault, third-degree harassment and second-degree burglary.

According to court records, Abarr allegedly approached the male victim’s vehicle in the parking lot of a West Des Moines grocery store, “opened the passenger door” and proceeded to “spit on the victim.”

Abarr also allegedly asked the victim whether he “wanted to die today,” according to court records, and he “refused to leave the vehicle until the victim advised he would defend himself,” according to court records.

A warrant for Abarr’s arrest was ordered Nov. 14 and served Monday. Abarr was held in the Dallas County Jail on a $10,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Dec. 2 in Dallas County District Court.

Abarr was arrested in Grimes in 2016 on a charge of first-offense domestic abuse assault, but the charge was later dismissed in Polk County District Court. He was arrested in Norwalk in 2019 on a charge of first-offense domestic abuse assault, but the charge was later dismissed in Warren County District Court.
