A Waukee man was arrested Monday morning after allegedly choking his girlfriend to unconsciousness during an argument.
Miles David Merical, 23, of 260 Fifth St., Waukee, was charged with domestic abuse assault-impeding flow of air/blood, second-offense possession of a controlled substance-marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The incident began about 9:30 a.m. Monday, when Waukee Police Department Officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a gas station at 650 W. Hickman Ave. in Waukee.
According to court records, officers made contact with the victim, who said she was staying at Merical’s grandparents’ residence at 240 Fifth St. in Waukee when “a verbal altercation began,” during which Merical allegedly “placed his hands around” the victim’s “throat, resulting in loss of consciousness due to lack of oxygen.”
Officers noted blood coming from around a piercing in the victim’s ear, according to court records, and the victim “complained of pain from her lip.” The victim refused medical attention.
Officers also made contact with Merical at the Hickman Road gas station. He was “sitting in a tan Ford Explorer” and in the console directly next to Merical, officers allegedly found “a red, green and yellow colored container” in which a “substance suspected to be THC wax” was discovered. A “clear glass bong” was allegedly found at Merical’s feet.
Merical was held in the Dallas County Jail prior to posting a $2,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Jan. 31 in Dallas County District Court.
