Joshua Dean Sundberg, 44, of Waukee was arrested Monday on a charge of child endangerment-bodily injury.

A Waukee man was arrested Monday on a Dallas County warrant in connection with a January incident in which he allegedly injured a juvenile when he struck the child in the face.

Joshua Dean Sundberg, 44, of 1072 S.E. Mapleleaf Lane, Waukee, was charged with child endangerment-bodily injury.

The incident began Jan. 29, when officers of the Waukee Police Department responded to a report from the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services that a juvenile came to school “with a cut under his eye that he reported his mom’s live-in boyfriend had caused by slapping him across the face,” according to court records.

The victim’s mother “confirmed that there were behavior issues at home” and that Sundberg “slapped” the victim, “leaving the mark under his eye,” according to court records.

The victim told the officers that “in the last month” he also “had injuries to his neck” from
Sundberg’s behavior.

A warrant for Sundberg’s arrest was ordered Feb. 12 in Dallas County District Court and served March 10. Sundberg is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $5,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing March 21 in Dallas County District Court.
