A Waukee man was arrested Sunday night after allegedly assaulting a woman and resisting detainment by law enforcement.
Brian Charles Shannon, 38, of Waukee was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault, interference with official acts, first-offense possession of a controlled substance-marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The incident began about 8:30 p.m. Sunday in the 500 block of S.E. Meadowlark Lane, where officers of the Waukee Police Department responded to a report of a fight.
The officers made contact with Shannon outside the residence and “in front of his vehicle.” Shannon allegedly “attempted to get back in his vehicle,” but the officers told him that he “was detained at the moment for further investigation,” according to court records.
When Shannon allegedly “started to move his hand towards the door handle on the driver’s side of his vehicle,” the officers “grabbed the male’s arms and told him to turn around and place his hands behind his back.”
Shannon allegedly “tensed up” and “began to try and break free” from the officers and then “started to fight officers,” according to court records. The officers “were able to get the
male on the ground and detain him and place him in the back of a patrol vehicle.”
The officers made contact with the victim, who said that Shannon “screamed, yelled and threw stuff” at her in the course of a dispute and that he allegedly “also used a laundry basket and pushed the victim into a wall,” according to court records.
The victim told the officers that Shannon allegedly “made threats towards the victim and the victim’s children,” according to court records. The victim told the officers that she “and the children were in fear of their lives.”
The officers observed on Shannon “injuries to his right hand” allegedly sustained in “hitting a plastic clothes drawer.” He also “sustained injuries to the left side of his forehead from hitting it against officer’s patrol vehicle’s window,” according to court records.
A search warrant was ordered for Shannon’s 2019 Jeep Cherokee, and the search disclosed “five empty Live Gold tubes, one empty cartridge with residue, one full cartridge, one Vapros Spinner II pen, one Raw Garden vape pen and an OOZE USB charger that fit the Vapros Spinner II,” according to court records.
Shannon was convicted of assault in 2006 in Muscatine County District Court. He was convicted of third-degree harassment in 2015 in Story County District Court.
