Waukee patriots show Warrior pride in Saturday parade

Waukee is a whirl for all ages this weekend, with Saturday's Celebration of Independence Parade hitting a high point.

WAUKEE, Iowa — Saturday morning’s Celebration of Independence Day parade saw a throng of people lining the parade route, which started at the South Middle School and proceeded northward on S.E. L. A. Grant Parkway to the Waukee Middle School.

Centennial Park was the site of the carnival, which started at noon Friday and ends Sunday at 10:30 p.m. Vendors of all varieties are also found in the park. Saturday features an evening movie, “Jumanji: The Next Level,” scheduled for 8:45 p.m.

Sunday will bring an adult sand volleyball tournament in the morning, with live music from the ’80s rock tribute band After Shock from 5-10:30 p.m. The Des Moines Skydivers will perform at 8 p.m., followed by a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m.
