A Waukee woman was charged with murder Friday in connection with the Aug. 31 death of her 1-year-old son.
Yemissi Nadege Keto, 26, of 236 N.W. Greenwood Place, Waukee, was charge with first-degree murder and child endangerment-death.
The incident began about 10 p.m. Aug. 31 in the 200 block of N.W. Greenwood Place, where officers of the Waukee Police Department responded to the report of “an unknown problem,” according to court records.
The child was found dead in an upstairs bedroom of Keto’s residence.
In an interview, Keto told the officers that she poured “bleach or another cleaning substance” over the baby’s face and then held her hand over his “nose and mouth, causing him to stop breathing,” according to court records.
Keto admitted that these “acts of torture and cruelty” were “taken with the intent to kill” the victim.
A warrant for Keto’s arrest was ordered Sept. 5 in Dallas County District Court and served Sept. 15. Keto is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $1 million cash-only bond. She is scheduled for arraignment Sept. 26 in Dallas County District Court.
