Entering Perry from the west on Park Street is now a smoother and wider prospect after the widening and repaving of the old stretch of roadway.

The Des Moines-based asphalt company InRoads Paving LLC wasted no time in paving the newly widened portion of Park Street westward from W. Third Street this week, largely wrapping up the joint city-county project begun in mid-June.

The in-town portion of the paving cost about $30,000, and the city is sharing the cost with the county on the portion from the city limits westward to I Avenue.

Also nearing completion was the Willis Avenue bridge over Frog Creek between W. Fourth and W. Fifth streets. The contractor, Elder Corp. of Des Moines, will soon pave over the new Contec culvert that replaced the previous bridge dating from about 1915.

The Iowa Department of Transportation split the $753,000 cost of the bridge project with the city of Perry.

The new Contec culvert over Frog Creek on west Willis Avenue is looking more like a bridge every day.
