A West Des Moines man was arrested Thursday after allegedly waking up his girlfriend by cocking his handgun and pointing it at her and then choking her and grabbing her phone when she resisted.

Andrew William Bolden, 34, of West Des Moines was arrested on charges of first-offense domestic abuse assault-use or display of weapon and obstruction of emergency communications.

According to court records, the victim and Bolden have lived together in West Des Moines since May 2019.

The victim alleged she “was sound asleep in her bed” Oct. 14 and was “abruptly woken” about 2:20 a.m., when “she heard the slide of one his guns being ‘racked back’ and then” saw Bolden “pointing the hand gun directly at her, causing her to fear for her life.”

When Bolden “ordered the victim out of the bedroom,” the victim “pushed” him “backwards, at which time he grabbed her by the throat and slammed her against the wall, causing her to lose her breath.”

Court records further indicated that when the victim tried to call 9-1-1, Bolden allegedly “grabbed the phone from her hand and threw her to the ground, preventing her from calling 9-1-1 immediately.”

Bolden was arrested Oct. 17 by officers of the West Des Moines Police Department. He is held at the Dallas County Jail on a $2,000 cash or surety bond and is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing Oct. 28 in Dallas County District Court.
