The Perry Fine Arts Series will present the Weary Ramblers on Sunday, Jan. 26 at 2 p.m. in the Perry Performing Arts Center at 1200 18th St. in Perry.
The newly formed Iowa folk duo, the Weary Ramblers, brings years of experience to the stage with award-winning songwriting. The musicians are Kathryn Severing Fox and Chad Elliott, and each brought unique strengths to their recently recorded new album.
Chad Elliott, who is also a painter, is a singer-songwriter, playing acoustic guitar in the folk, Americana and blues music scene. He grew up in Iowa, lived in Texas and California and then returned to Iowa about 20 years ago. He has performed at dozens of venues in the Midwest, writes original music and has recorded several albums. During the pandemic, he recorded livestream painting videos put to music.
Kathryn Severing Fox played viola before switching to the violin. She won the DownBeat award, a prestigious jazz education award, and was a Henry Mancini Institute Fellow, and she has played with Celtic, Jam Grass and other bands and pursued many solo endeavors throughout her career. She teaches lessons, including the piano, and she also tunes pianos.
The Weary Ramblers formed in 2022. The duo write and sing original songs, harmonizing together. Chad plays acoustic guitar and harmonica, while Kathryn plays the fiddle, viola and mandolin. A friend of Kathryn’s in Nashville recently built her a new electric instrument — a five-string combination of a violin and a viola, calling it “Violent,” but it is also known as “Lucy.”

The addition of Kathryn increases the melt factor exponentially.”
