The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Des Moines has issued a wind advisory from noon to midnight Wednesday, Dec. 23. Northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph are forecast, with gusts expected at 45 to 55 mph.
The NWS warned that gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. High-profile vehicles may experience difficult travel conditions, especially in areas of strong crosswinds, the NWS said.
Travelers are urged to use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high-profile vehicle.
Along with Dallas County, the wind advisory will be in effect in Worth, Hancock, Cerro Gordo, Humboldt, Wright, Franklin, Calhoun, Webster, Hamilton, Hardin, Carroll, Greene, Boone, Story, Audubon, Guthrie, Polk, Cass, Adair, Madison, Warren, Adams, Union, Clarke, Taylor, Ringgold and Decatur counties.
Along with Perry, the wind advisory includes the cities of Northwood, Manly, Garner, Britt, Kanawha, Mason City, Clear Lake, Humboldt, Eagle Grove, Clarion, Belmond,
Hampton, Rockwell City, Manson, Lake City, Pomeroy, Fort Dodge, Webster City, Iowa Falls, Eldora, Ackley, Carroll, Jefferson, Boone, Ames, Audubon, Exira, Guthrie Center, Panora, Bayard, Casey, Waukee, Adel, Des Moines, Atlantic, Greenfield, Stuart, Adair, Fontanelle, Winterset, Earlham, Indianola, Norwalk, Carlisle, Corning, Creston, Osceola, Bedford, Lenox, New Market, Mount Ayr, Lamoni and Leon.
