Employees of the Wells Fargo bank in Perry evacuated their workplace shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday after detecting a strong odor of natural gas inside the building.
The Perry Volunteer Fire Department responded to the incident at the financial-services business at 1224 First Ave.
The report from the Wells Fargo workers followed a similar report receivbed by the Perry Police Department about 4:45 p.m. of a strong odor of gas in the vicinity of Second and Warford streets in Perry.
A MidAmerican Energy worker could be seen in the vicinity, apparently sniffing around by means of a high-tech sensor. The worker directed all media inquiries to the utility’s corporate communications office.
