Wells Fargo evacuates Perry offices after ‘strong odor of gas’ detected

Wells Fargo workers in Perry evacuated their workplace about 5 p.m. Wednesday after detecting a strong odor of natural gas. The workers said Well Fargo corporate policy prohibited them from identifying themselves for the local media.

Employees of the Wells Fargo bank in Perry evacuated their workplace shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday after detecting a strong odor of natural gas inside the building.

The Perry Volunteer Fire Department responded to the incident at the financial-services business at 1224 First Ave.

The report from the Wells Fargo workers followed a similar report receivbed by the Perry Police Department about 4:45 p.m. of a strong odor of gas in the vicinity of Second and Warford streets in Perry.

A MidAmerican Energy worker could be seen in the vicinity, apparently sniffing around by means of a high-tech sensor. The worker directed all media inquiries to the utility’s corporate communications office.
