Prince Garpue Karnquee, 26, of West Des Moines was arrested Monday on a charge of second-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness.

A West Des Moines man was arrested Monday after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend Saturday morning in their home.

Prince Garpue Karnquee, 26, of 8925 Cascade Ave., West Des Moines, was charged with second-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness.

The incident began about 8 a.m. Saturday in the 8900 block of Cascade Avenue, where Karnquee allegedly “assaulted his live-in girlfriend by striking her in the face with his hand,” according to court records.

The victim “suffered bruising, swelling and pain as the result of the assault,” according to court records.

Karnquee is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Sept. 30 in Dallas County District Court.

Karnquee was convicted of first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness in May 2021 in Polk County District Court.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
