West Des Moines man allegedly assaults pregnant wife

Charles Donyah Hodges, 20, of West Des Moines was arrested Saturday on a charge of first-offense domestic abuse assault-injury or mental illness.

A West Des Moines man was arrested Saturday afternoon after he allegedly dragged his wife down the stairs and threw her out of the house when she refused to have sex with him.

Charles Donyah Hodges, 20, of West Des Moines was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault-injury or mental illness.

The alleged assault occurred about 2:45 p.m. Saturday at Hodges’ West Des Moines residence, where officers of the West Des Moines Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance.

According to court records, the female victim “did not want to engage in sexual activity with” Hodges, who “became upset and dragged the victim down the stairs” and “threw the
victim outside of the house through the front door.”

The victim, who is pregnant, “sustained a visible scrape on her left arm,” according to court records.

Hodges is held in the Dallas County Jail in advance of an initial appearance in Dallas County District Court.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
