
A West Des Moines man was arrested Sunday night after allegedly assaulting a West Des Moines woman in the home.
Scott Alan Thomas Brinsmead, 36, of 5250 Dakota Dr., West Des Moines, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault-display or use of a weapon.
The incident began about 8:15 p.m. Sunday at a residence in the 1100 block of 62nd Street in West Des Moines, where officers of the West Des Moines Police Department responded to a report of a someone “being assaulted by his son with a pan,” according to court records.
The officers made contact with the victim, who told the officers that Brinsmead allegedly “slapped, choked and pulled the victim’s hair” and also “displayed a kitchen knife to the victim” during the course of the domestic dispute, according to court records.
Brinsmead is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing March 27 in Dallas County District Court.
Brinsmead was convicted of third-degree harassment in 2024 in Polk County District Court.
