Donavin James Ray, 26, of West Des Moines was arrested Saturday on a charge of first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness.

A West Des Moines man was arrested Saturday after allegedly assaulting a West Des Moines woman in the home.

Donavin James Ray, 26, of 6201 E. P. True Parkway, West Des Moines, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness.

The incident began about 3 p.m. Saturday at a residence in the 6200 block of E. P. True Parkway, where officers of the West Des Moines Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance.

The officers made contact with the victim, who told the officers that Ray allegedly “grabbed and pushed the victim down, which caused her to fall on a cat cage,” according to court records.

The officers observed on the victim, who is 12 weeks pregnant, “a visible bruise on her left forearm,” according to court records.

Ray is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $1,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing April 23 in Dallas County District Court.

Alves was convicted of assault in 2024 in Dallas County District Court.
