A West Des Moines man was arrested Thursday after allegedly assaulting his wife in the home.
Eric Jose Louis Vortes, 43, of 950 67th St., West Des Moines, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness, child endangerment and obstruction of emergency communications.
The incident began about 8 a.m. Thursday at a residence in the 900 block of 67th Street, where officers of the West Des Moines Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance.
The officers made contact with the victim, who told the officers that Vortes allegedly “grabbed her by her right arm and pushed her several times” and “deliberately slapped the phone away from her” to prevent her calling 911, according to court records.
A minor witnessed the allegedly assault and confirmed the victim’s account, according to court records.
Vortes is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing May 19 in Dallas County District Court.
*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
