A West Des Moines man was arrested on a Dallas County warrant Thursday in connection with a November incident in which he allegedly assaulted a Des Moines man who was working as a clerk in a convenience store in the course of stealing candy.
Zeb Ryan Harris, 26, of 690 58th Pl., West Des Moines, was charged with assault with intent to inflict serious injury, second-degree robbery and aggravated theft.
The incident began about 1:30 a.m. on Nov. 4 at a convenience store in the 15500 block of Hickman Avenue in Clive, where Harris and a “female accomplice” allegedly stole a candy bar, according to court records.
Surveillance video inside the store showed that Harris allegedly “slapped” the victim’s hands “as he was attempting to call 911” and thenĀ “pushed the victim and put his hand around the victim’s neck and squeezed,” according to court records.
Harris is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $5,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Jan. 21 in Dallas County District Court.
*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
Young man, you’re lucky that you didn’t get what they refer to in Oklahoma as a “country-*ss whoopin’.”
