Julius Kamara, 39, of West Des Moines was arrested Thursday on charges of two counts of first-offense domestic abuse assault-display or use of weapon.

A West Des Moines man was arrested Thursday night after allegedly threatening his step-son with a knife.

Julius Papa Kamara, 39, of 6255 Beechtree Dr., West Des Moines, was charged with two counts of first-offense domestic abuse assault-display or use of weapon.

The incident began about 7:45 p.m. Thursday in the 6200 block of Beechtree Drive, where officers of the West Des Moines Police Department responded to a report of a disturbance.

The victim told the officers that Kamara allegedly “grabbed a knife from the kitchen” in the course of a verbal dispute and “backed him up against the wall” while “holding the knife in his hand and jabbing it at his face,” according to court records.

The victim told the officers that Kamara’s “knuckles from the hand holding the knife made contact with his lip.”

The victim told the officers that he began “backing up all the way to the bedroom” and Kamara allegedly “kept coming at him” with a knife in his hand, according to court records.

The victim said he “attempted to shut the door” of the bedroom, but Kamara “forced the door open, resulting in the hinges to be broken on the door.”

Kamara “did not wish to provide his statement and chose to plead the fifth,” according to court records.

Kamara was held in the Dallas County Jail prior to his release on his own recognizance. He is scheduled for arraignment Aug. 5 in Dallas County District Court.
