Samuel Ryan Batterson, 42, of West Des Moines was charged with first-degree harassment Wednesday after allegedly threatening to kill a woman.

A West Des Moines man was arrested early Wednesday after allegedly threatening to kill his female victim.

Samuel Ryan Batterson, 42, of 4920 Hawthorne Dr., West Des Moines, was charged with first-degree harassment.

According to court records, the victim alleged that Batterson called her on the telephone and said, “I’m going to kill myself. Better yet, I am going to kill you.”

The victim’s “current boyfriend” also claimed he heard Batterson say, “You better return all my rings at work, or I am going to kill you.”

The victim told officers of the West Des Moines Police Department that Batterson “currently possessed two handguns and one rifle.”

Police made contact with Batterson at his West Des Moines residence, and “a handgun was found on the back waistband of the defendant,” according to court records. He admitted contacting the victim earlier in the night but denied making any threats.

Batterson is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for arraignment Jan. 2 in Dallas County District Court.

Dallas County Magistrate Donna Mae Schauer issued a no-contact order Wednesday and ordered Batterson to surrender all firearms to law enforcement.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
