A West Des Moines man was arrested Thursday in connection with an alleged assault Monday in Centennial Park in Waukee.
Scott Edwin Thomas Jr., 18, of 5555 Glen Oaks Point, West Des Moines, was charged with assault-intent to inflict serious injury and disorderly conduct-fighting or violent behavior.
The incident began March 1 about 10:45 a.m. at Centennial Park in Waukee, where officers of the Waukee Police Department responded to a report of “a traumatic injury to a male,” according to court records.
The teenage victim told the officers that Thomas approached the victim’s vehicle and “began to punch him in the face and head,” according to court records.
The victim said he “attempted to exit his vehicle,” but Thomas “continued to punch and strike” the victim “in the head and face, causing pain, swelling and bleeding” from the face.
The officers observed on the victim “large areas of swelling on his face, blood coming from his nose and mouth” and “areas of abrasions to his head and neck,” according to court records. After being examined by a medical doctor, it was determined the victim “sustained a broken nose and concussion.”
Thomas is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing March 15 in Dallas County District Court.
