A West Des Moines man was arrested on a Dallas County warrant Tuesday in connection with a June incident in which he allegedly struck a woman in the head.

Kameron Kantrell Russell, 22, of 8925 Cascade Ave., West Des Moines, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness.

The incident occurred June 7 about 9:15 p.m. in the 8900 block of Cascade Avenue in West Des Moines.

The victim told officers of the Waukee Police Department that Russell allegedly “pushed the victim and hit the back of the victim’s head,” according to court records.

A “slap or bang sound is heard” on an audio recording of the incident, with “the victim crying, stating, ‘You hit me in the head,'” according to court records.

The officers observed “no visible injuries” on the victim, who “did complain of head and hip pain,” according to court records.

A witness to the incident told police that he or she “saw the defendant hit the victim,” according to court records.

A warrant for Russell’s arrest was ordered June 8 in Dallas County District Court and served July 28. Russell is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $1,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Aug. 6 in Dallas County District Court.
