West Des Moines man pleads not guilty to child pornography charge

Michael Robert Conway, 43, of West Des Moines was arrested on a warrant Thursday on a charge of first-offense purchase/possess medium depicting exploitation of minor.

A West Des Moines man arrested July 2 on a West Des Moines Police Department has waived his right to a preliminary hearing and entered a plea of not guilty in Dallas County District Court to 10 counts of child pornography.

Michael Robert Conway, 43, of 1710 94th St., West Des Moines, was charged with first-offense purchase/possess medium depicting exploitation of minor.

According to court records, a detective with the West Des Moines Police Department executed a search warrant at Conway’s residence June 30, and “a thumb drive was located in the defendant’s sock drawer.”

The digital storage device disclosed some “529 images of children ranging from approximately 4 years old to 8 years old, clothed, unclothed and some engaged in sexual acts.”

During an interview with law enforcement, Conway allegedly “admitted to searching for and downloading child pornography and child erotica.”

Conway was held in the Dallas County Jail before posting a $20,000 cash or surety bond. He will be scheduled for arraignment in Dallas County District Court.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
