Marie Hudson, 49, of West Des Moines was arrested Tuesday on a charge of assault causing bodily injury or mental illness.

A West Des Moines woman was arrested Tuesday night in her residence, where she allegedly beat up another woman.

Marie Hudson, 49, of 8925 Cascade Ave., West Des Moines, was charged with assault causing bodily injury or mental illness.

The incident began about 11 p.m. Tuesday in the 8900 block of Cascade Avenue in West Des Moines, where officers of the West Des Moines Police Department responded responded to a report of a domestic disturbance.

Hudson “admitted to consuming alcohol with the victim throughout the evening,” and she told the officers that a dispute occurred when the victim “followed her” to her room, according to court records.

Hudson said “there was a knife already in the bedroom, and she had grabbed it to move it when the victim had entered the bedroom and continued the argument,” according to court records. She told the officers that “she never threatened to use the knife or displayed it in a threatening manner and that she eventually placed the knife down.”

Hudson said the victim “was the first one to become physical and punched and bit” Hudson, who allegedly “proceeded to punch the victim to the point where” officers observed on the victim “scratches and bruises on her face, neck and nose,” according to court records.

Hudson “did not have any visible injuries and refused any medical attention,” according to court records.

Hudson was held in the Dallas County Jail prior to her release on her own recognizance. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing April 29 in Dallas County District Court.
