Perry customers picked up their last clean garments from Wil-Do Cleaners and Laundromat June 30, after more than 50 years in business in downtown Perry.

Wil-Do Cleaners and Laundromat, a fixture of the downtown Perry commercial community for more than 50 years, will close its doors forever June 30.

Sandy Clark Holmes, owner and operator of the family business, announced the store’s coming closure in a message Friday morning.

Dear customers and friends.

It is with great emotion, both sad and happy, that I am announcing the closing of Wil-Do Cleaners and Laundromat. My parents and I have worked hard to provide the best possible service to our customers for the past 50-plus years. Many of you have become friends, and I will miss you all very much and thank you all for brightening my life.

The following is our schedule for the next few weeks”

      • Monday-Friday 7 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. through June 12
      • Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. through June 30
      • The last day we will take clothes in for cleaning will be Thursday, June 11.
      • The last day to pick up your cleaning will be Tuesday, June 30.

Clothing left in the building after the June 30 date will be there till Aug. 1. There will be a phone number posted at the door to reach us. Any clothing left after that date, as per Iowa law, will be donated to a charity. We will do our best to contact people first.

We have enjoyed being a part of your lives. Dee, Theresa, Ben, Dustin, Matt, my brothers, Jim and Larry Clark, and I thank you for your business through the years, and I know Wilma and Doug (Wil and Do) would be telling me . . . job well done. It’s time to rest and enjoy life.

I do ask one last favor: that anyone reading this please share the post so more people in the community and surrounding area are aware and can come in and get their cleaning.

Love always,
Sandy Clark Holmes
