William “Bill” Bennett, a lifelong resident of Perry, passed away on July 11, 2024, at the age of 80.
Bill was born on Aug. 26, 1943, to Edward Lee Roy and Cora G. (Hamilton) Bennett in Perry, Iowa.
Bill’s involvement and commitment to the community began at a young age with his paper route, faithfully delivering the Perry Daily Chief newspaper.
After graduating from Perry High School, Bill embarked on a long and fulfilling career, beginning with 26 years of service at Oscar Meyer in Perry.
He later spent 14 years working at Adel Brick and Tile, where his hard work and commitment were highly regarded.
Bill had a deep love for the outdoors. He found great joy in fishing, especially during cherished trips to Lake Okoboji with family and friends. He also enjoyed hunting and trapping, passions he pursued throughout his life.
Bill’s love for the land was further evident in his many years of farming alongside his brother, Bob, during which he took particular pleasure in raising cattle.
Bill’s life was marked by his dedication to his work, his love for his family and his enjoyment of the simple pleasures of the outdoors. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Bill is survived by his daughters, Brenda Bennett and Deborah (John) Bennett-Johnson; grandchildren, Andrea Stovall, Lacie Helmrichs, Antonio Stovall, Scottie Love, Mikel Houston II and Tyrel Houston; brother, Bob Bennett; nephew, Jason Bennett; and his faithful dog, Molly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Christine Bennett; grandson, Marcus Cosby Jr.; and multiple nieces; nephews; and extended family.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, July 17 at the Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home-Perry Chapel at 11 a.m., followed by the funeral at 12 p.m. and graveside service at Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry, Iowa.
