Our heavenly Father gained a beautiful soul Friday Aug. 10, 2018. William, better known as “Bill” or “Billy,” left this earth after a brief battle with cancer.
Bill was born June 5, 1943, the son of William M. and Virginia (Carrel) Siglin, who both preceded him in death.
His early years were filled with life on the farm, riding his horse, chasing his mother’s adored peacocks and pestering his older sister Ann Siglin.
After high school, he attended Simpson College, where he met the love of his life, Joan Johnson. They were united in marriage on June 5, 1964.
After college, with an economics major and a music minor, he moved to Memphis, Tenn., where he and Joan started their family.
He returned to Iowa and lived in Polk City before settling in his beloved hometown of Woodward to raise his four daughters, Tracy (Jeff) DeLong of Shellsburg, Kelly (Bill) Skinner of Johnston, Jacqueline (Chad) Ewalt of Grimes and Elizabeth Siglin of Grimes.
Bill’s pride and joy will eternally be his 10 grandchildren, Morgan, Madison and Michael DeLong, Lauren, Elle and Vivienne Skinner, Adam, Gavin and Eliza Ewalt and Will Kielty.
Bill always made the holidays, family gatherings and tailgating major events filled with fun, laughter and enough food to feed an army. It was always a joy for Bill to get together with cousins, nieces and nephews.
Bill’s primary occupation was as a self-employed real estate broker, but he also found time for his farms, rental properties, church choir, golf, being an Iowa State and Woodward-Granger super-fan and countless community activities.
He loved his job, which never felt like work. He also did not take much time off, stating, “My boss is a jerk.”
It has been said that Bill has never known a stranger and he loved so many of the wonderful people in his life. He had a great gift with people and made everyone feel like family. Heck, to Bill you were family. Bill was one in a billion. He will be greatly missed.
To honor Bill’s memory, visitation will be held Tuesday, Aug. 14 at the United Methodist Church in Woodward from 3-7 p.m. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 15 at 10:30 a.m. also at the Church in Woodward. Inurnment will be private in the Woodward Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to support organizations and scholarships in Woodward.
