Wayde Burkhart, Perry-area realtor and die-hard sports fan, is offering a set of four tickets to the 47th annual Iowa Shrine All-Star Football Classic in a contest open to all readers of ThePerryNews.

The rules are simple:

  1. Choose your favorite figure from Iowa Shrine Bowl history. Rosters are available on the Shrine Bowl website. Eligible figures from Iowa Shrine Bowl history include players, coaches, cheer squads, dance teams and other volunteers involved with the game.
  2. Write down the name of your favorite figure along with your own name, address and phone number, and send them to: ThePerryNews, P.O. Box 382, Perry, IA 50220.

The name of the lucky winner of the set of four tickets to the 47th annual Iowa Shrine All-Star Football Classic will be drawn at random by ThePerryNews Sports Editor Jeff Webster, with Burkhart supervising.

The Iowa Shrine All-Star Football Classic will be played Saturday, July 20 at the Unidome at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. Forty-six Iowa high school seniors are selected for each squad by the coaching staffs, with the North and South schools lying on each side of U.S. Highway 30.

The Iowa Shrine All-Star Football Game was established in 1973 by a group of sports-minded Iowa Shriners after they saw the success of Shrine-sponsored football games in other states. Contributions from the annual event now total over $2.6 million dollars in support of the Shriners Hospitals for Children programs.

All profits from the Iowa Shrine All-Star Football Classic go to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, and all donations are tax deductible.
