The National Weather Service (NWS) in Des Moines has issued a wind advisory remaining in effect until 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The NWS predicts northwest winds will vary from moderate to high levels into Tuesday afternoon before finally diminishing by sunset. The strongest winds will likely occur during the late-morning to early-afternoon hours, with sustained wind speeds 25 to 35 mph and peak gusts of 40 to 50 mph.

Strong northwest winds might affect high-profile vehicles, blow trash cans and other loose objects and break small branches, the NWS warns. The strong winds might also cause difficulty controlling fires, with fields being harvested especially susceptible.
