The National Weather Service (NWS) in Des Moines has issued a wind advisory for the Perry area to remain in effect Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

The NWS predicts winds will strengthen northwest to southeast during the late morning hours and remain strong through sunset, with northwest wind speeds of 25 to 35 mph and peak gusts of 40 to 50 mph likely.

Fire weather conditions will also be elevated in areas that do not receive sufficient  precipitation, and any fires may spread quickly, the NWS advisory said. There may also be a brief period of low visibility with blowing snow during the morning.

The strong northwest winds might affect high-profile vehicles, making travel hazardous, the NWS said. Lightweight, unsecured objects, such as Christmas decorations and other holiday items, might be blown around, and residents are encouraged to secure all holiday decorations.
