Wind chill advisory for Perry area until noon Sunday

The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Johnston has issued a wind chill advisory for the Perry area until noon Sunday, with wind chills to minus 30 degrees forecast.

The dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes by Sunday morning.

The wind chill advisory will likely be expanded to last much of the next week, the NWS said.

Along with Dallas County, the wind chill advisory applies in Palo Alto, Pocahontas, Humboldt, Sac, Calhoun, Webster, Hamilton, Carroll, Greene, Boone, Story, Guthrie, Polk, Jasper, Madison, Warren, Marion, Clarke, Lucas and Wayne counties.

Along with Perry, the wind chill advisory is in effect in the cities of Emmetsburg, Pocahontas, Laurens, Rolfe, Fonda, Gilmore City, Humboldt, Sac City, Lake View, Odebolt,
Wall Lake, Schaller, Early, Rockwell City, Manson, Lake City, Pomeroy, Fort Dodge, Webster City, Carroll, Jefferson, Boone, Ames, Guthrie Center, Panora, Bayard, Casey, Waukee, Adel,
Des Moines, Newton, Winterset, Earlham, Indianola, Norwalk, Carlisle, Pella, Knoxville, Osceola, Chariton, Corydon, Seymour, Allerton and Humeston.
