The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Johnston has issued a wind chill advisory for the Perry area from midnight Monday until 9 a.m. Tuesday, with wind chills from minus 20 to minus 30 degrees forecast.
The dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
While winds will be light overnight, temperatures dropping to between 5 below zero and 15 below zero will create hazardous wind chills over central and southern Iowa.
