After two years of inactivity, work resumed this week on the Harbach building at 1108 Second St.

Fifteen months after the devastating derecho wind storm blew through Perry, a pair of damaged storefronts in the 1100 block of Second Street were fitted for new windows this week.

Display windows were installed in the ground-level commercial space of the Harbach building at 1108 Second St., and upper-story windows were replaced in the Dillenbeck-Citizens State Bank building at 1126 Second St.

Demolition work on the 11,000-square-foot Harbach building began in November 2016, and the original windows were removed in November 2019, after which progress stalled on the 75-year-old building.

The 8,000-square-foot Dillenbeck-Citizens State Bank building, built in 1903, was acquired in 2016 by Dan and Emily Leslie of Perry, and the ground-floor commercial space has been restored. Work is pending on the upper story, with new windows making a big step forward.
