Winter advisory in effect Thursday 9 p.m. to Friday 9 a.m.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Des Moines has issued a winter weather advisory for Monday for central Iowa, including Perry and all of Dallas County, with a forecast of 2-5 inches of snow.

The advisory will be in effect Thursday, Feb. 8 from 9 p.m. until Friday, Feb. 9 at 9 a.m.

The strong weather system will impact the state Thursday afternoon into Friday morning. Snow is expected to spread across much of northern Iowa Thursday afternoon and continue to spread southward into central Iowa Thursday night. The snow will persist into Friday morning.

In addition, northwest wind speeds will increase to 15 mph to 25 mph late Thursday night and into early Friday morning, with patchy blowing and drifting snow especially in rural, open areas.

Travelers should expect slippery road conditions, especially during the Friday morning commute. Reduced visibility and hazardous travel conditions are predicted at times. Motorists are urged to use caution while driving.

Along with Dallas County, other Iowa counties in the path of the snow include Crawford, Carroll, Greene, Boone, Story, Marshall, Polk, Jasper and Poweshiek counties. Cities affected include Perry, Denison, Carroll, Jefferson, Boone, Ames, Marshalltown, Waukee, Adel, Des Moines, Newton and Grinnell.

Motorists are encouraged to use caution while traveling. The latest road conditions for the state can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.
