The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Des Moines has issued a winter weather advisory in effect from 6 p.m. Saturday until 6 p.m. Sunday for the Perry area and all of Iowa except the northeast and southeast corners.

A slow moving winter storm system will bring as much as 5 to 7 inches of snow, with locally higher amounts possible. The duration of the snowfall is expected to exceed 24 hours.

The fresh snowfall to Iowa will begin late Saturday and continue through Sunday, according to the NWS. Winds are forecast to be relatively light, and primary impacts will be snow-covered and slick roads.

Roads will quickly become snow covered and slick as the snow begins early Saturday night, the NWS predicts. Weekend travelers should plan accordingly for snow-covered roads
and limited visibility and use caution while driving.

The latest road conditions can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.
