WINTERSET — Visiting Perry was kept winless in Raccoon River Conference softball Monday after suffering a 10-2 loss to Winterset. The victory adds to a string of wins for the Huskies over the Jayettes that stretches back to at least the 2005 season.

Winterset (18-14, 6-8) scored four runs in the second inning, then added one in the fourth after Perry (5-23, 0-14) had plated a run in the third. The Huskies grew their lead to 9-1 with a four-run fifth, with each team scoring once during their turn at the plate in the sixth.

Cassidy Heck and Macy Killmer had two hits apiece for Perry, with Lydia Olejniczak, Jayna Kenney, Kennedy Tunink, Gabby West and Peyton Tunink also recording hits. West and Jasmyn Barck both drew walks, with Olejniczak and Taylor Atwell scoring runs. Kennedy Tunink drove in a run with her single while Olejniczak plated the other with a sacrifice fly.

Jayna Kenney tossed six innings for Perry. She surrendered 10 runs (nine earned) on nine hits and seven walks. She hits two batters and struck out another.

Madison Berns threw five innings for the hosts, allowing two runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out four. Thea Banning pitched two frames and finished with two strikeouts.

Banning, Bridget Stover and Riley Kious all had one single and one double for the Huskies.

Perry travels to Harlan (27-7) Thursday for a Class 4A Region 2 meeting. An upset would send the Jayettes to top-ranked Carlisle Saturday.
