Nell Marie Poil, 41, of Winterset was arrested Tuesday on a charge of assault causing bodily injury.

A Winterset woman allegedly assaulted an Adel woman Monday while both were incarcerated in the Dallas County Jail.

Nell Marie Poil, 41, of 118 E. Lane St., Winterset, was charged with assault causing bodily injury or mental illness.

According to court records, the incident occurred about 4:15 p.m. Monday and was captured on jail video cameras.

Poil allegedly “ran out of her cell and confronted the victim,” according to court records. Poil allegedly got “in the victim’s face, screaming,” and “spit on her” and “also punched her numerous times, grabbed her by the hair and attempted to push her down the stairs.”

The deputies observed on the victim “a black eye, fat lip and numerous bruises and scratches” sustained “during the altercation,” according to court records.

Poil was arrested July 10 on a Dallas County warrant for probation violation in connection with a January 2020 conviction for controlled substance violation in Dallas County District Court.

Poil is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,000 cash or surety bond in advance of an initial appearance in Dallas County District Court.

Poil was convicted of assault causing bodily injury in 2012 in Polk County District Court. She was arrested in Des Moines March 31 on a charge of first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness. The case is pending in Polk County District Court.
