A Wisconsin man tipped over his pickup after leaving an Adel tavern Wednesday night, and he told police he was fleeing an armed man.
Michael Damon Moon, 21, of 1731 Moon Court, Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, was charged with first-offense OWI, false report of an indictable offense to a public entity and failure to maintain control.
The incident began about 9:45 p.m. in the 200 block of S. Ninth Street in Adel, where an officer with the Adel Police Department responded to a report of a rollover accident.
The officer arrived and found a 2019 Dodge Ram pickup truck lying on its side and two men sitting on the sidewalk near the vehicle. The men refused medical attention, according to court records.
The officer made contact with the driver, Moon, who said “he drove from the Corner Tap,” and “did not see the median and hit a large boulder, causing the Dodge to flip,” according to court records.
Moon told the officer that “he fled the Corner Tap because a male subject drew a gun on him,” but he “later admitted this was false and a male subject did not draw a gun on him,” according to court records.
The officer allegedly “could smell the strong odor commonly associated with an alcoholic beverage coming from the defendant’s person as he spoke,” and a breath alcohol concentration (BRAC) test returned a result “indicating his BRAC was above 0.08,” according to court records. A DataMaster DMT test administered at the Dallas County Jail returned a BRAC of 0.143.
Moon is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,000 cash-only bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing May 14 in Dallas County District Court.
